Most people know that feeding your dog human food is generally not a very good idea. Your dog’s dietary needs are much different than our own, so often times feeding your dog the same food you eat is actually causing them harm. Our dog-friendly restaurant here in Dallas wants you to enjoy a night out with the pup and that even means enjoying food together because not all things you eat are bad for your furry friend!
While it’s a pretty good rule to follow on most occasions, there are some great foods you can eat with your dog and many that even good for them as well. At Backyard, we pride ourselves on being a dog-friendly restaurant, with everything we do specifically geared toward you being able to spend a night out with your friends — furry or otherwise. You’ll never have to wonder where “pet-friendly restaurants near me” are ever again!
Here is a list of the five best foods to enjoy with your dog that are perfectly healthy for them and can even be a nice change of pace or treat. Trust us, after they get done running around our dog-friendly patio, they’ll have worked up an appetite!
Most people know about this timeless treat. While many of you probably use peanut butter as a mask for pills and medicine for your dog to scarf up, it’s perfectly OK to treat them to a scoop of peanut butter even when you aren’t hiding an ulterior motive. Peanut butter is also great to stick in a toy and keep them occupied and using their minds as your puppy tries to reach the sweetness inside. Peanut butter is rich in healthy fats, Vitamin B, niacin and Vitamin E.
Carrots present many of the same health benefits for your dog as they do for us. Carrots have lots of Vitamin A and beta-carotene, which is believed to improve eyesight as well as benefit your teeth. The same goes for your dog! Carrots are a healthy snack and pair pretty nicely with peanut butter for your puppy. Here are a few other healthy vegetables that are safe to feed your dogs:
- Bell peppers
- Loose corn
Eggs are great because they are high in protein and are easily digestible for your dog. Scrambled eggs make a nice treat for your furry friend and can be enjoyed together in just a few minutes.
High in potassium, Vitamin B6 and Vitamin C, bananas are a great snack for both you and your dog to enjoy together, both at home or our dog-friendly restaurant. Some other fruits to feed your dog are:
- Apples (without the seeds)
- Blueberries and other berries
Finally, salmon is an excellent meat for your dog as it benefits their hair and nails, just like the fish does for you. Mix in some salmon with their breakfast or dinner to keep their coat healthy and shiny.
